SUPPORT

Funding that Supports our Work

Dr. Becker was appointed the Bert and Ethel Conrey Chair in Hydrogeology in 2008.   The endowment came from a generous estate gift from Bert and Ethel Conrey, regular contributions since 2002 from the Carl W. Johnson Foundation, as well as contributions from faculty, staff and alumni of the department.

Bert was the first geology faculty member at CSULB when he joined in 1955. The gift from the Conreys was meant to specifically establish an endowed faculty chair for the department. The faculty, staff and alumni of the department contributed to the endowment because they wanted to show their commitment to the cause. The final gift from Carl W. Johnson Foundation brought the total gift to $1M.

The Conrey endowments supports teaching materials, student stipends, travel, and equipment.  It allows us to fill in funding from grants and perform exploratory research that may lead to additional support.
